A word from our Director:

I was with a group of boys sitting around a campfire. We had finished dinner, played some games, and were settling down for the evening. Dessert was being cooked over the fire as we began to talk about life. Before long the boys began to ask questions that gave us the opportunity to share with them the power of the Gospel to transform their lives. As the fire died down (and our campfire desert was devoured) I closed in prayer and went off to bed with the memory of another special time at camp.

There is something about a campfire that invites people to open up and share. Over the years I have enjoyed countless campfire experiences where campers have prayed to receive Christ or unloaded burdens around its glowing and inviting light. Even with adults, the campfire is a unique place. I love to see families in the Woodcrest campground gathered around the campfire talking, laughing, eating, and creating memories that will last long after the embers have faded.

The campfire experience remains a vital part of Woodcrest’s philosophy.  Even in the current age of technology, we find that the campfire still captures the imagination and creates space for Gospel encounters where the light of Christ is shared. Camp activities may change, but Woodcrest’s foundation is still about getting youth out of the ordinary so they can experience the Extraordinary. Woodcrest will continue to shine the light of Christ one campfire at a time.
