Summer Staff Opportunities at Woodcrest Retreat

Wouldn’t it be great if there was a place you could spend your summer saturated in lively Christian community, reaching kids for Christ, growing in leadership abilities, pushing past your perceived limits, and enjoying God’s creation? And on top of it all, get paid to do it? Woodcrest Retreat can be that place for you!

Day and resident camps for children ages 6-15 are held at Woodcrest Retreat from mid-June through mid-August. Our summer camp staff members are vital to the summer camp ministry, they represent Jesus to the children at camp. We are looking for energetic Christians who desire to share their faith in word and deed as they serve in various roles in an outdoor setting. We also search for individuals who display solid character and are fun-loving, genuine, understanding, and full of love. Individual must be a committed Christian, active in their church, growing in faith and in agreement with our faith statement.

Paid Positions

Overnight Camp Director

Provides direction and oversight of residential camp staff, schedules, and activities. Director must possess strong organization and relational skills, proficient computer skills, be outgoing, creative, take initiative, and have an attitude of service. Responsible to the summer camp director. Past camp counseling experience necessary. This is a 10 week position. The weeks spent on duty will be a resident position including meals & lodging. Day Camp Director

Trekkers Day Camp Leader (2)

The Trekkers Counselors provide leadership and oversight of co-ed Trekkers middle school aged day campers. This includes participating with campers in recreational activities such as group games, activities and off-site trips. Trekkers counselors lead a Biblical devotional discussion once a day based on provided curriculum. Therefore, these leaders need to possess a basic understanding of the Bible and be able to explain basic Biblical truths in accordance with Woodcrest Retreat’s Statement of Faith. Personality and character qualities that are important in performing this role are confidence and enthusiasm when leading a group of young people and having a heart for helping them grow in the Christian faith. Trekker’s Counselors are responsible to the Program Director. This Day Camp role serves Mondays through Fridays including a Sunday evening preparation meeting. While this is typically a drive-in position, serving as a resident with lodging and meals provided can be considered.  Base Pay: $200/week. Overnight Camp Counselors (8)

Overnight counselors serve by leading, teaching, and caring for a group of 7-9 campers. Counselors will live with campers in Adirondack style bunkhouses, cook 1-2 meals a day over a fire, lead Bible discussions, pray with and for campers and lead and participate in daily camp activities. Counselors must possess a solid understanding of the Bible, strong relational skills and lots of enthusiasm. Position may include serving as day counselor or support staff one or multiple weeks. Preferably 18 or older. Overnight Counselors are responsible to the Overnight Director. This is a resident position including meals & lodging. Day Camp Counselors (12)

Day camp counselors serve by leading, teaching, and caring for a group of 7-9 campers. Day Camp Counselors will lead campers through and participate in daily camp activities, including singing, Bible, crafts, nature, and recreation. Daily commitment approx. 8:30 am-4:30 pm. Counselors must possess a solid understanding of the Bible, strong relational skills and lots of enthusiasm. Preferably 16 or older. This is a drive-in position including lunch. General serving time commitment is Sun. evening 6 pm-10:00 pm. Mon. 7:00 am – 5:30 pm and Tues.-Fri. 8:30 am-4:30 pm. (Lodging available for Sunday night) It will also include a weekly rotation of before & after care either 7-9 am or 4:00-5:30 pm. In addition you may also apply to be overnight support staff for the full summer. You would serve as support staff during evening activities and then serve as the second staff person in a bunkhouse overnight. Eight positions available. Time off is a minimum of a 24 hour day, per 7 day period. Base Pay: $125/week.

Health Care Provider (Overnight)

Manage the health care of up to 100 campers and staff per week. Reviews health forms at camper registration, communicates with parents according to health related concerns, follows doctors orders in providing medication, evaluates and treats minor injuries, calls for professional help in major injury, promotes and encourages the health and safety of staff and campers. Keeps accurate records of all health related information. Licensed RN, LPN, EMT, CNA or nursing students or those with similar training are welcome to apply. This is a 9 1/2-week resident position including meals and lodging. General time off is Fri. 8:00 pm thru Sun. 6:00 pm. Base Pay: $210/week. Arts & Crafts Instructor

Lead creative hands on experiences for summer campers. Responsibilities include coordinating the arts and crafts projects, classes, selecting and planning projects, ordering supplies. Requires a high level of creativity, self-motivation, organizational abilities, as well as a willingness to serve in other areas of camp as needed. Art or creative experience preferred. May include additional responsibilities. This position can be either a resident position including meals & lodging or a drive-in position. General time off is Fri. 8:00 pm thru Sun. 6:00 pm. Nature Instructor

Desires to serve through creative teaching and leading discovery and exploration of nature. Emphasizes what we can learn about our Creator through His creation. Plans and teaches a daily lesson for campers, cares for Nature Shack animals, and cleans our “Nature Shack”. Individual must possess strong organization and time management skills, be flexible, creative, take initiative, and have an attitude of service. May also include additional responsibilities. This is resident position that includes meals & lodging. General time off is Fri. 8:00 pm thru Sun. 6:00 pm. Base Pay: $190/week. Videographer / Digital Media Producer

Produce weekly camp digital media to be shown at the end of camp parent’s program and for purchase by parents.  Oversee all videotaping, editing, duplicating and distributing responsibilities. Requires a high level of creativity and self-motivation. Applicants should have good computer skills and organizational abilities as well as a willingness to serve in other areas of camp as needed. Video, photography and digital video editing experience necessary. May also include additional responsibilities. Knowledge of video editing software preferred. This is a resident position including meals & lodging. General time off is Fri. 8:00 pm thru Sun. 6:00 pm.  Base Pay: $220/week. Snack Bar/Store Manager

Provide leadership & management to camp sales at the camp store and the snack bar. Must have the ability to operate a cash register, handle money efficiently in a fast paced environment, and prepare and serve simple food items. Individual must possess strong organization, relational, and time management skills. Must be flexible, friendly, take initiative, and have an attitude of service.  The snack bar manager will also be asked to jump in and help out in other areas around camp. There may be some weekend hours at a per hour rate. This is a 9 week resident position including meals & lodging or a drive-in position. Worship Leader / Prayer Coordinator

Plan song selection and prepare group worship times to be meaningful times of celebration and reverence. The Worship Leader will lead age appropriate worship for various age groups of children and youth, and play a lead instrument well. Includes prayer coordinator responsibilities. The applicant must be spiritually mature, possess proficient computer skills, flexible and have good communication and organizational skills. Will also include additional responsibilities. General time off is Fri. 8:00 pm thru Sun. 6:00 pm.  Base pay: $190/week  When not performing worship leading responsibilities this person may be assigned a variety of duties to assist in the operation of camp program as identified and directed by camp leadership. Support Staff Services (2)

Desires to serve the Lord by providing support and assistance to all programs. Responsibilities may include assisting nature and craft instructor, helping to lead games, camper registration, cleaning and maintaining bathrooms, challenge course elements, camp store, running the water slide, serving as photographer, and encouragement to all staff and counselors. Individual must be flexible, take initiative, and have an attitude of service. Responsible to the summer camp director. Preferably 18 or older. Food Service Directors

Plan and prepare meals for up to 240 campers and staff each day. Coordinates volunteer kitchen staff and food purchasing and kitchen clean up. Should enjoy working with a team of people; possess a positive work ethic, and a servant’s heart. Experience in a working kitchen is preferred.

Resident Lifeguard

The Resident Lifeguard is a support staff position that focuses on, but not limited to, the pool and water slide related activities. While serving at the pool this person ensures safety of campers and patrons according to their lifeguard training. As a summer camp support staff team member this person also helps with the execution of camp programs not related to the pool. Similar to other summer staff, Resident Lifeguards duty spans from Sunday evening through Friday evening, with some rotational responsibilities on the weekends. Becoming part of our resident camp staff provides the experience of living and working in a gospel oriented community that often challenges and encourages your faith in Christ in a unique way. Volunteer Positions

Volunteer Craft Assistant – Day Camps

Individual assists the Craft Instructor in craft time sessions. Offers support, helps teach campers the craft, emphasizes new skill development and encourages opportunities for campers to be creative. Assist in morning craft classes each day, Mon-Fri. Each class includes approx. 25-35 campers and staff. Works with craft instructor and Program Director concerning project ideas. Desires to implement scriptural themes into craft projects when possible.

Volunteer Adventure Trip Leader

Individual desires to serve the Lord through planning and leading adventure trips. May involve some or all of the following: planning the trip menus, purchasing food. Loading, unloading, cleanup of gear, and spiritual input / devotions, normally each morning & evening, during the trip. Leaders will have experience with the particular type of adventure that they’ll be leading (canoeing, backpacking, rock climbing, etc.) Leaders must also possess a solid understanding of the Bible, strong relational skills and lots of enthusiasm. Preferably 21 or older. Time varies according to the particular adventure, typically the trip time, plus planning, packing, and clean-up time.

Volunteer Nature Assistant

Individual desires to serve the Lord through assisting the nature instructor in teaching groups of campers, and in feeding, caring for and displaying a variety of species in the camp’s Nature Shack. Responsibilities include cleaning pens and tanks, feeding, care of animals. Hours vary. 15 or older.

Volunteer Day Camp Counselors

Volunteer for one or more weeks! This individual will serve by leading and caring for a group of 7-9 campers. Counselor’s duties include leading the group through the scheduled activities of the day, participating in camp activities, encouraging campers in participation, teamwork and safety, connecting with campers throughout the week, and encouraging Spiritual growth. Counselors must possess a solid understanding of the Bible, strong relational skills and lots of enthusiasm. Preferably 16 or older. (Sunday night staff meeting and Mon–Fri. 8am – 4:30 pm)

Kitchen

During the summer months, many volunteers are needed to assist in preparing and serving meals to the summer campers. Place your name on the call as needed list and then volunteer as available. Time commitment is from approx 10 to 2.

You would be assisting in the preparation and serving of meals for up to 240 campers and staff per week.

Volunteer Maintenance

Assist in maintaining buildings and grounds under the supervision of the maintenance director. Should enjoy working with hands; possess a positive work ethic, and a servant’s heart. Hours vary by day or week as scheduled with Facility Director. Preferably 15 or older.

Volunteer Camp Speaker – Overnight Camps

Assist by sharing at evening firesides of 80-100 campers and staff. Works closely with Program Director concerning teaching focus. Desires to be a support to counselors in helping campers to begin or strengthen and grow in their relationships with God through Jesus Christ. Mon.-Fri. evenings.

R.I.S.E. is designed for teenagers who want to be a part of Woodcrest but cannot yet work on summer staff. Because the emphasis of the program is on developing future staff, R.I.S.E. is designed to be fun, challenging and give the participants a taste of what it’s like to work in summer camp ministry. For example, R.I.S.E. participants will serve alongside camp staff doing daily activities through shadowing day camp counselors, serving in the kitchen, and grounds maintenance. Also, they will grow by participating in team building exercises, learning camp leadership skills and exploring God’s Word. Also, we shouldn’t forget that they will have a great time going on adventurous outdoor excursions and enjoying classic camp fun! Don’t wait to sign up because space is limited and admittance is not guaranteed.

Program Dates: July 2-6 & July 9-13, 2018

This overnight program is a single session that is two weeks in length, excluding the weekend. Participants must attend both weeks.

Lifeguarding at Woodcrest Retreat


Woodcrest Retreat’s pool is a highlight for many families and campers throughout the summer. Our lifeguards work together to ensure patron safety and that any activities occurring at the pool are in accordance with Woodcrest Retreat’s mission and vision. To become a lifeguard an individual needs to be at least 15 years old and obtain a American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification. (Or an equivalent certification.)
