Summer Staff Opportunities at Woodcrest Retreat

Day and resident camps for children ages 6-15 are held at Woodcrest Retreat from mid-June through mid-August. Our summer camp staff members are vital to the summer camp ministry. They are the people who represent Jesus to the children at camp. We are looking for energetic Christians who desire to share their faith in word and deed as they serve in various roles in an outdoor setting. Other qualities include fun-loving, genuine, understanding, and full of love. Summer camp is a place to grow in an incredible Christ-centered community.

Individual desires to serve the Lord by providing direction and oversight of residential camp staff, schedules, and activities. Person must be a committed Christian, active in their church, growing in faith and in agreement with our faith statement. Must possess strong organization and relational skills, proficient computer skills, familiar with Microsoft Office, be outgoing, creative, take initiative, and have an attitude of service. Responsible to the Program Director. Preferably 20 or older. This is a 12 week position. Approximately 2 1/2 weeks will be spread out from date of hire until summer (or another arrangement). The remaining weeks will be a resident position including meals & lodging. General time off is Fri. 8 pm thru Sun. 5:00 pm except for specific weekend programs.

Counselors will live with campers in Adirondack style shelters, cook 1-2 meals daily over a fire, lead Bible discussions, pray with/ for campers and lead/ participate in daily camp activities. Counselors must possess a solid understanding of the Bible, strong relational skills and lots of enthusiasm. In addition, this person serves as the first level of oversight and leadership to the same gender of counselors. Position may include serving as day counselor or support staff one or multiple weeks. Will be involved in camper follow-up after camp. This person should have strong interpersonal relationship skills with all ages. Preferably 19 or older. This is a resident position including meals & lodging. General time off is Fri. 8 pm thru Sun. 6:00 pm except specific weekend programs.

This is a drive-in position including lunch (not lodging other than Sun. night). Will include serving Sunday evening each week. General time serving is Sun. eve 6 pm-Mon. 5:30 pm and Tues.-Fri. 8:30 am-5:30 pm. (probable rotation of before & after care either 7-9 am or 4:00-5:30 pm) plus serving as resident support staff one week and serving during specific weekend programs.

Counselors will lead campers through and participate in daily camp activities, including singing, devotions, crafts, nature, and recreation, and off site trips. Counselors must possess a solid understanding of the Bible, strong relational skills and lots of enthusiasm. Responsible to the Program Director. Preferably 21 or older. This is a 10 week resident position including meals & lodging and/or possibly a drive-in position. Will include serving Sunday evening, and serving with Resident Camp evenings (M-F) during the week. General time off is Fri. 5:30 pm thru Sun. 5:30 pm except for specific weekend programs.
Individual desires to serve the Lord through leading worship in song for up to 240 campers and staff in various programs. The Worship Leader will lead age appropriate worship for various age groups of children and youth, and play a lead instrument well. The applicant must be spiritually mature, proficient computer skills, familiar with Microsoft Office, flexible and have good communication and organizational skills. Will plan song selection and for meaningful time of celebration and reverence in group worship. Coordinates and encourages prayer for camp, campers, and staff. Will help staff develop prayer teams and updates. Update prayer teams with prayer needs and praises. May also include additional responsibilities. This is a resident position including meals & lodging. General time off is Fri. 8 pm thru Sun. 5:30 pm except for specific weekend programs.
Desires to serve the Lord through planning and preparing meals for up to 240 campers and staff each day. Coordinates volunteer kitchen staff and food purchasing and kitchen clean up. Should enjoy working with a team of people, possess a positive work ethic, and a servant’s heart. Experience in a working kitchen is preferred.
Individual desires to serve the Lord through managing the health care of up to 100 campers and staff per week. Reviews health forms at camper registration, communicates with parents relating to health concerns, follows doctors orders in providing medication, evaluates and treats minor injuries, calls for professional help in major injury, promotes and encourages the health and safety of staff and campers. Keeps accurate records of all health related information. Licensed RN, LPN, EMT, CNA or nursing students or those with similar training are welcome to apply. May also include additional responsibilities. This resident position including meals & lodging. General time off is Fri. 8 pm thru Sun. 6:00 pm except for specific weekend programs.

Individual must be a committed Christian, active in their church, growing in faith and in agreement with our faith statement. Emphasizes what we can learn about our Creator through His creation. Works closely with the Outdoor Education Coordinator in teaching groups of campers and in feeding, caring for and displaying a variety of species in the camp’s Nature Shack. Plans and teaches a daily lesson for campers. Individual must possess strong organization and relational and time management skills, proficient computer skills, be familiar with Microsoft Office, be outgoing, flexible, creative, take initiative, and have an attitude of service. May also include additional responsibilities. Preferably 18 or older. This is a resident position including meals & lodging.
Individual desires to serve the Lord through producing weekly camp videos to be shown at the end of camp parent’s program and for purchase by parents. Responsible for creating a camp video for each program. Oversee all videotaping and editing responsibilities. Requires a high level of creativity and self-motivation. Applicants should have good computer skills and organizational abilities as well as a willingness to serve in other areas of camp as needed. Video, photography and computer experience preferred. Individual desires to serve the Lord through coordinating the arts and crafts projects, classes, stations, selecting projects, ordering supplies, and working with volunteer crafts instructors, to organize creative hands on experiences for summer campers. Requires a high level of creativity and self-motivation. Applicants should work well leading others; have creative skills, organizational abilities, as well as a willingness to serve in other areas of camp as needed. Art or creative experience preferred. Volunteer Positions
Individual desires to serve the Lord through leading, teaching, and caring for a group of 7-9 campers. Counselors will live with campers in Adirondack style shelters, cook 1-2 meals daily over a fire, lead Bible discussions, pray with /and for campers and lead/ participate in daily camp activities. Counselors must possess a solid understanding of the Bible, strong relational skills and lots of enthusiasm. Preferably 18 or older. (Sun. 6 pm–Fri. 8 pm)

Individual desires to serve the Lord through assisting in maintaining buildings and grounds under the supervision of the Maintenance Director. Should enjoy working with hands; possess a positive work ethic, and a servant’s heart. Hours vary by day or week as scheduled with Maintenance Director. Preferably 15 or older.

Each class includes approx. 25-35 campers and staff. Works with Program Director concerning project ideas. Desires to implement scriptural themes into craft projects when possible.

May involve some or all of the following: planning the trip menus, purchasing food, loading, unloading, cleanup of gear, and spiritual input / devotions (normally each morning & evening) during the trip. Leaders will have experience with the particular type of adventure that they'll be leading (canoeing, backpacking, rock climbing, etc.) Leaders must also possess a solid understanding of the Bible, strong relational skills and lots of enthusiasm. Preferably 21 or older. Time commitment varies according to the particular adventure - typically the trip time, plus planning, packing, and clean-up time.

Individual desires to serve the Lord through assisting the Nature Instructor in teaching groups of campers, and in feeding, caring for and displaying a variety of species in the camp’s Nature Shack. Responsibilities include cleaning pens and tanks, feeding, care of animals. Hours vary. 15 or older.

| Staff Assistant Fund Provides an opportunity for donors to give to summer staff members. Donations are placed in the fund to be distributed to participating summer staff at the end of the summer. A donor may be an individual, church, or church related group. A maximum of $2000 may be raised by an individual staff member in addition to their base salary. | Returning Staff Bonuses Staff who have previously served a full summer at Woodcrest will receive a $15 per week bonus for each previous year of service. |
2012 General summer staff commitment runs 9 weeks from June 10- Aug 11 with a few specific weekend programs (currently 1 for 2012)
