Summer Staff Opportunities at Woodcrest Retreat

Day and resident camps for children ages 6-15 are held at Woodcrest Retreat from mid-June through mid-August. Our summer camp staff members are vital to the summer camp ministry. They are the people who represent Jesus to the children at camp. We are looking for energetic Christians who desire to share their faith in word and deed as they serve in various roles in an outdoor setting. Other qualities include fun-loving, genuine, understanding, and full of love. Summer camp is a place to grow in an incredible Christ-centered community.

Paid Positions

     Resident Camp Director

Individual desires to serve the Lord by providing direction and oversight of residential camp staff, schedules, and activities. Person must be a committed Christian, active in their church, growing in faith and in agreement with our faith statement. Must possess strong organization and relational skills, be outgoing, creative, take initiative, and have an attitude of service. Responsible to the Program Director. Preferably 20 or older. This is a 12 week position. Roughly 2 1/2 weeks will be spread out from date of hire until summer (or another arrangement). The remaining weeks will be a resident position including meals & lodging. General time off is Friday 8 PM thru Sunday 5 PM, except specific weekend programs.

     Day Camp Director

     Staff-in-Training Director

Individual desires to serve the Lord by providing direction and oversight of Staff-in-Training program, schedules, and activities. Individual must be a committed Christian, active in their church, growing in faith and in agreement with our faith statement. Director must possess strong organization and relational skills, be outgoing, creative, take initiative, and have an attitude of service. Responsible to the Program Director. Preferably 20 or older. This is an 10 week position. Roughly 1 1/2 weeks will be spread out from date of hire until summer (or another arrangement). The remaining weeks will be a resident position including meals & lodging or a drive-in position. Will include serving Sunday Evening, Sleepover Option nights, and serving with Resident Camp one other evening (M-F) per week. General time off is 2-3 of 5 evenings Monday-Friday , and Friday 6 PM thru Sunday 5:30 PM, except specific weekend programs.

     Lead Resident Camp Counselors (2)

Desires to serve the Lord through leading and caring for a group of 7-9 campers and encouraging other staff. Counselors must possess a solid understanding of the Bible, strong relational skills and lots of enthusiasm. (see “Camp Counselor” for additional counseling description). In addition, this person serves as the first level of oversight and leadership to the same gender of counselors. This person should have strong interpersonal relationship skills with all ages. Preferably 19 or older. This is a resident position including meals & lodging. General time off is Friday 8 PM thru Sunday 6 PM, except specific weekend programs.

     Resident Camp Counselors (6)

Desires to serve the Lord through leading, teaching, and caring for a group of 7-9 campers. Counselors will live with campers in Adirondack style shelters, cook 1-2 meals a day over a fire, lead Bible discussions, pray with and for campers and lead and participate in daily camp activities. Counselors must possess a solid understanding of the Bible, strong relational skills and lots of enthusiasm. Position may include serving as day counselor or support staff one or multiple weeks. Will be involved in camper follow-up after camp. Preferably 18 or older. This is a resident position including meals & lodging. General time off is Friday 8 PM. thru Sunday 6 PM. except specific weekend programs.

     Day Camp Counselors (8)

Desires to serve the Lord through leading, teaching, and caring for a group of 7-9 campers. Day Camp Counselors will lead campers through and participate in daily camp activities, including singing, Bible, crafts, nature, and recreation. Daily commitment approx. 7 AM - 5 PM. Counselors must possess a solid understanding of the Bible, strong relational skills and lots of enthusiasm. Preferably 16 or older. This is a drive-in position including meals (not lodging other than Sunday night). Will include serving Sunday evening each week, and any nights with a Day Camp Sleepover Option. General time serving is Sun. evening 6 PM - Monday 5:30 PM and Tuesday - Friday 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM (probable rotation of before & after care either 7 - 9 AM or 4-5:30 PM) plus Sleepover Option nights, and serving during specific weekend programs.

     Worship Leader / Prayer Coordinator

Desires to serve the Lord through leading worship in song for up to 240 campers and staff in various programs. The Worship Leader will lead age appropriate worship for various age groups of children and youth, and play a lead instrument well. The applicant must be spiritually mature, flexible and have good communication and organizational skills. Will plan song selection and for meaningful times of celebration and reverence in group worship. As Prayer Coordinator, this individual will coordinate and encourage prayer for camp, campers, and staff. Will assist staff in developing prayer teams and updates. Also responsible to communicate weekly via e-mail with prayer supporters, listing both praises and prayer concerns. May also include additional responsibilities. This is a resident position including meals & lodging. General time off is Friday 8 PM thru Sunday 6 PM, except specific weekend programs.

     Food Service Directors

Desires to serve the Lord through planning and preparing meals for up to 240 campers and staff per week. Coordinates volunteer kitchen staff and food purchasing. Should enjoy working with a team of people; possess a positive work ethic, and a servant’s heart. Experience in a working kitchen is preferred.

     Health Care Director (Resident)

Desires to serve the Lord through managing the health care of up to 240 campers and staff. Reviews health forms at camper registration, communicates with parents related to health concerns, administers evaluations and treatment in the care of staff and campers. Keeps accurate records of all health related information. Licensed RN, LPN, EMT, CNA or nursing students or those with similar training are welcome to apply. May also include additional responsibilities. This is a resident position including meals & lodging. General time off is Fri. 8 p.m. thru Sun. 6:00 p.m. except specific weekend programs.

     Health Care Director (Day)

     Nature Instructor

Desires to serve the Lord through creative teaching and in the discovery and exploration of nature. Emphasizes what we can learn about our Creator through His creation. Responsible for lesson and activity planning and teaching groups of campers, feeding and care of animals, and displaying a variety of species in the camp’s Nature Shack. May also include additional responsibilities. This is a resident position including meals & lodging. General time off is Friday 8 PM thru Sunday 6 PM except specific weekend programs.

     Challenge Course Instructor / Nature Assistant

The Challenge Course Instructor is responsible to facilitate, manage and ensure safety of the challenge course and initiative activities to encourage spiritual growth through the use of adventure activities. This individual will also assist the Nature Instructor with teaching groups of campers in the discovery of God’s creation, and the feeding & care of animals. Will also include additional program responsibilities. This is a resident position including meals & lodging. General time off is Friday 8 PM thru Sunday 6 PM except specific weekend programs.

     Videographer

Desires to serve the Lord through producing weekly camp videos to be shown at the end of camp parent’s program and for purchase by parents. Responsible for creating a camp video for each program. Oversee all videotaping and editing responsibilities. Requires a high level of creativity and self-motivation. Applicants should have good computer skills and organizational abilities as well as a willingness to serve in other areas of camp as needed. Video, photography and computer experience preferred. May also include additional responsibilities. This is a resident position including meals & lodging. General time off is Friday 8 PM thru Sunday 6 PMexcept specific weekend programs.

     Arts & Crafts Director

Desires to serve the Lord through coordinating the arts and crafts projects, classes, stations, supplies, and working with volunteer Crafts Instructors, to organize creative hands on experiences for summer campers. Requires a high level of creativity and self-motivation. Applicants should work well leading others; have creative skills, organizational abilities, as well as a willingness to serve in other areas of camp as needed. Art or creative experience preferred. May also include additional responsibilities. This is a resident position including meals & lodging. General time off is Friday 8 PM thru Sunday 6 PM except specific weekend programs.



Volunteer Positions


     Volunteer Resident Camp Counselors

Desires to serve the Lord through leading, teaching, and caring for a group of 7-9 campers. Counselors will live with campers in Adirondack style shelters, cooking 1-2 meals a day over a fire, leading Bible discussions, praying with and for campers and leading and participating in daily camp activities. Counselors must possess a solid understanding of the Bible, strong relational skills and lots of enthusiasm. Must have previous counseling experience at Woodcrest Retreat. Preferably 18 or older. (Sundy 6 PM – Friday 8 PM).

     Volunteer Day Camp Counselors

Desires to serve the Lord through leading, teaching, and caring for a group of 7-9 campers. Day Camp Counselors will lead campers through and participate in daily camp activities, including singing, Bible, crafts, nature, and recreation. Daily commitment approx. 8 AM- 4:30 PM, plus Sun. night prep, and Sleepover Option nights. Counselors must possess a solid understanding of the Bible, strong relational skills and lots of enthusiasm. Preferably 16 or older. This is a drive-in position including meals (not lodging other than Sun. night). (Sunday 6 PM - Monday 4:30 PM) (Tuesday-Friday 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM) (plus 4:30 PM - 8:30 AM on Sleepover Option night)

     Volunteer Maintenance

Desires to serve the Lord through assisting in maintaining buildings and grounds under the supervision of the maintenance director. Should enjoy working with hands; possess a positive work ethic, and a servant’s heart. Hours vary by day or week as scheduled with Maintenance Director. Preferably 15 or older.

     Volunteer Camp Speaker – Resident Camps

Desires to serve the Lord through teaching God’s word. Share at evening firesides of 80-100 campers and staff. Works closely with Program Director concerning teaching focus. Desires to be a support to counselors in helping campers to begin or strengthen and grow in their relationships with God through Jesus Christ. One week position. Evenings: Sunday – Friday.

     Volunteer Bible Teacher – Day Camps

Desires to serve the Lord through teaching God’s word. Share at morning Bible classes each day, Mon-Fri. Each class includes approx. 25-35 campers and staff. Works closely with Program Director concerning teaching focus. Desires to be a support to counselors in helping campers to begin or strengthen and grow in their relationships with God through Jesus Christ. One week position.

     Volunteer Kitchen Staff

Desires to serve the Lord through assisting in the preparing and serving of meals for up to 240 campers and staff per week. Should enjoy working with a team of people; possess a positive work ethic, and a servant’s heart. Hours vary by day or week as scheduled with Food Service Director.

     Volunteer Craft Assistant– Day Camps

Desires to serve the Lord through providing structured arts and crafts opportunities for campers to be creative. Lead morning craft classes each day, Mon-Fri. Each class includes approx. 25-35 campers and staff. Works with Program Director concerning project ideas. Encouraged to implement scriptural themes into craft projects when possible.

     Volunteer/ Paid Adventure Trip Leader

Desires to serve the Lord through planning and leading adventure trips. May involve some or all of the following: planning the trip menus, purchasing food, loading, unloading, cleanup of gear, and spiritual input / devotions (normally each morning & evening) during the trip. Leaders will have experience with the particular type of adventure that they'll be leading (canoeing, backpacking, rock climbing, etc.) Leaders must also possess a solid understanding of the Bible, strong relational skills and lots of enthusiasm. Preferably 21 or older. Time commitment varies according to the particular adventure - typically the trip time, plus planning, packing, and clean-up time.

Wages
Day camp Counselors - $80.00/week
Resident Counselors - $125/week
Camp Directors/ Lead Counselors/ Support Staff – ranges from $105 - $155/week
Staff Assistant Fund
Provides an opportunity for donors to give to summer staff members. Donations are placed in the fund to be distributed to participating summer staff. A donor may be an individual, church, or church related group. A maximum of $2000 may be raised by an individual staff member in addition to their base salary. Returning Staff Bonuses
Staff who have previously served a full summer at Woodcrest will receive a $15 per week bonus for each previous year of service.
