Resident Camp Director

Position requirements:

Committed Christian, active in their church, growing in faith and in agreement with our Faith Statement.

Organized, outgoing, has initiative, creativity, and attitude of service

Ability to plan daily schedules and lead staff

Preferably 20 or older

Responsible to the program director

This is an 15 week position.  Roughly 4 1/2 weeks will be spread out from date of hire until summer (or another arrangement).  The remaining weeks will be a resident position including meals & lodging.  General time off is Fri. 8pm thru Sun. 5:30pm except specific weekend programs (currently 1 or 2 for 2008).

Responsibilities:

·        Pray for campers, staff and give encouragement

·        Help recruit summer camp staff

·        Assist Program Director in planning and leading staff training

·        Help shape the use of current year Bible curriculum

·        Make sure overall tone of all activities are God-honoring.

·        Work with Program Director to prepare resident camp schedule

·        Prepare rainy day schedules with game/activity ideas

·        Plan & lead Sun. evening staff meeting including prayer, interactive activity, instructions, set-up jobs, procedure reminders, and devotional.

·        During registration, greet parents and campers and be available to answer any questions, and make any group / counselor changes

·        Lead morning staff meeting. Check with camp counselors to see if they have any program needs or questions.  Ask for prayer request related to whole group.  Provide spiritual encouragement and if appropriate offer praise, and / or suggestions for improvement.

·        Give morning welcome, instructions, verse review, daily announcements

·        Help organize group for camp photo

·        Know Bible lesson well enough to lead if needed. (Counselor sick)

·        Observe / participate in Bible lesson, (at least 1 per week). When not observing a Bible lesson, pray with other support staff at the beginning of Bible time.

·        Check with Food Service Director daily to see if they have any questions about program food needs

·        Make sure preparations have been made for all interest groups, shelter group activities, and craft time

·        Give noontime announcements and lead in prayer. Give direction for lunch procedures, Siesta guidelines, order of the lunch line, camp store instructions, and afternoon schedule.

·        When traveling to the pool go over rules, help enforce rules, participate with campers, connect with counselors, and provide direction for leaving.

·        Go over water slide rules with campers the first day and hold slide staff accountable in enforcing them

·        Prepare for and lead game time, or make sure another staff person is prepared to lead and assist as needed

·        Communicate with and pray with speaker prior to beginning of Fireside program.

·        Give evening opening, and closing prayer, and any instructions

·        After Fireside, either lead group back to pavilion or be available to pray with campers if arrangements are made for another staff person to lead group back.

·        Give closing night time announcements

·        Handle any behavior or other issues that counselors need help with.

·        Provide directions for special events

·        Plan and lead Parent’s Program with help from other staff

·        Have a brief meeting with staff after campers leave for feedback and prayer.

Day Camp Director

Responsibilities:

·        Go to either the pool or water slide and go over rules, help enforce rules, participate with campers, connect with counselors, and provide direction for leaving

·        Prepare for rainy days with game/activity ideas

·        Give any directions needed for snack time

·        Lead a closing prayer, verse review, and announcements about upcoming days, and dismissal instructions

·        Make sure campers follow instructions for dismissal and that all campers are picked up.

·        Have a brief meeting with staff after campers leave for feedback and prayer

·        Handle any behavior or other issues that counselors need help with.

Worship Leader / Prayer Coordinator

Desires to serve the Lord through leading worship in song for up to 240 campers and staff in various programs. The Worship Leader will lead age appropriate worship for various age groups of children and youth, and play a lead instrument well. The applicant must be spiritually mature, flexible and have good communication and organizational skills. Will plan song selection and plan for meaning full time of celebration and reverence in group worship. Includes Prayer Coordinator responsibilities (below).  May also include additional responsibilities. 

Desires to serve the Lord through prayer for camp, campers, and staff and coordinating prayer efforts on behalf of the ministry.  Will help staff develop prayer teams and updates.  Update prayer teams with prayer needs and praises.  

This is a 10-week resident position including meals & lodging.  General time off is Fri. 8pm thru Sun. 6:00pm except specific weekend programs (currently 1 or 2 for 2008).

Food Service Directors

Desires to serve the Lord through planning and preparing meals for up to 240 campers and staff per week.  Coordinates volunteer kitchen staff and food purchasing.  Should enjoy working with a team of people; possess a positive work ethic, and a servant’s heart.  Experience in a working kitchen is preferred.   

Health Care Director (Resident)

Nature Instructor

Desires to serve the Lord through creative teaching and in the discovery and exploration of nature.  Emphasizes what we can learn about our Creator through His creation.  Works closely with the Outdoor Education Coordinator in teaching groups of campers and in feeding, caring for and displaying a variety of species in the camp’s Nature Shack.  May also include additional responsibilities.  This is a 10-week resident position including meals & lodging.  General time off is Fri. 8pm thru Sun. 6:00pm except specific weekend programs (currently 1 or 2 for 2008).

Videographer

Desires to serve the Lord through producing weekly camp videos to be shown at the end of camp parent’s program and for purchase by parents.   Responsible for creating a camp video, and capturing a variety of still photographs for each program.  Oversee all videotaping and editing and photography responsibilities.   Requires a high level of creativity and self-motivation.  Applicants should have good computer skills and organizational abilities as well as a willingness to serve in other areas of camp as needed.  Video, photography and computer experience preferred.  May also include additional responsibilities.  This is a 10-week resident position including meals & lodging.  General time off is Fri. 8pm thru Sun. 6:00pm except specific weekend programs (currently 1 or 2 for 2008).

Arts & Crafts Director

Desires to serve the Lord through coordinating the arts and crafts projects, classes, stations, supplies, and working with volunteer Crafts Instructors, to organize creative hands on experiences for summer campers.  Requires a high level of creativity and self-motivation.  Applicants should work well leading others, have creative skills, organizational abilities, as well as a willingness to serve in other areas of camp as needed.  Art or creative experience preferred.  May also include additional responsibilities.  This is a 10-week resident position including meals & lodging.  General time off is Fri. 8pm thru Sun. 6:00pm except specific weekend programs (currently 1 or 2 for 2008).

Lead Camp Counselors

Desires to serve the Lord through leading and caring for a group of 7-9 campers and encouraging other staff.  Counselors must possess a solid understanding of the Bible, strong relational skills and lots of enthusiasm. (see “Camp Counselor” for additional counseling description).  In addition, this person serves as the first level of oversight and leadership to the same gender of counselors.  This person should have strong interpersonal relationship skills with all ages.  Preferably 19 or older.  This is a 10 and a half-week resident position including meals & lodging.  The half-week is Leadership Orientation.  General time off is Fri. 8pm thru Sun. 6:00pm except specific weekend programs (currently 1 or 2 for 2008).

Camp Counselors

Desires to serve the Lord through leading, teaching, and caring for a group of 7-9 campers.  Counselors will live with campers in Adirondack style shelters, cooking 1-2 meals a day over a fire, lead Bible discussions, pray with and for campers and lead and participate in daily camp activities.  Counselors must possess a solid understanding of the Bible, strong relational skills and lots of enthusiasm.  Will be involved in camper follow-up after camp.  Preferably 18 or older.  This is a 10-week resident position including meals & lodging.  General time off is Fri. 8pm thru Sun. 6:00pm except specific weekend programs (currently 1 or 2 for 2008).

Day Camp Counselors

Desires to serve the Lord through leading, teaching, and caring for a group of 7-9 campers.  Day Camp Counselors will lead campers through and participate in daily camp activities, including singing, Bible, crafts, nature, and recreation.  Will be involved in leadership training, Bible study, discipleship, team building activities each day after day campers leave.   Daily commitment approx. 7:30 am-5:00 pm.  Counselors must possess a solid understanding of the Bible, strong relational skills and lots of enthusiasm.  Preferably 16 or older.  This is a 10-week drive-in position including meals (not lodging other than Sun. night).  Will include serving Sunday Evening each week, and any nights with a Day Camp Sleepover Option.  General time serving is Sun. eve 6 pm-Mon. 5:30 pm and Tues.-Fri. 8:30 am-5:30 pm. (probable rotation of before & after care either 7-9 am or 4:00-5:30 pm) plus Sleepover Option nights, and serving during specific weekend programs (currently 1 or 2 for 2008).

Volunteer Camp Speaker – Resident Camps

Desires to serve the Lord through teaching God’s word.  Share at evening firesides of 80-100 campers and staff.  Works closely with Program Director concerning teaching focus.  Desires to be a support to counselors in helping campers to begin or strengthen and grow in their relationships with God through Jesus Christ.

Volunteer Bible Teacher – Day Camps

Desires to serve the Lord through teaching God’s word.  Share at four morning Bible classes each day, Mon-Fri.  Each class includes approx. 25-35 campers and staff.  Works closely with Program Director concerning teaching focus.  Desires to be a support to counselors in helping campers to begin or strengthen and grow in their relationships with God through Jesus Christ.

Volunteer Craft Instructor – Day Camps

Desires to serve the Lord through providing structured arts and crafts opportunities for campers to be creative.  Lead four morning craft classes each day, Mon-Fri.  Each class includes approx. 25-35 campers and staff.  Works with Program Director concerning project ideas.  Desires to implement scriptural themes into craft projects when possible.

Volunteer Adventure Trip Leader

Desires to serve the Lord through planning and leading adventure trips.  May involve some or all of the following:  planning the trip menus, purchasing food - save receipts for reimbursement from camp. (leaders for trips during summer can connect with the summer camp cook to see if they have any of the supplies needed), loading, unloading, cleanup of gear, and spiritual input / devotions, normally each morning & evening, during the trip.  Leaders will have experience with the particular type of adventure that they'll be leading (canoeing, backpacking, rock climbing, etc.)  Leaders must also possess a solid understanding of the Bible, strong relational skills and lots of enthusiasm.  Preferably 21 or older.  Apply Online

Staff Assistance Fund

Provides an opportunity for donors to give to summer staff members.  Donations are placed in the fund to be distributed to participating summer staff at the end of the summer.   A donor may be an individual, church, or church related group. A suggested goal is for participating summer staff persons to receive a distribution of up to $100 per week in addition to their base salary. (Ask for our Summer Camp - Staff Assistance Fund brochure.)

 

Returning Staff Bonuses

Staff who have previously served a full summer at Woodcrest will receive a $15 per week bonus for each previous year of service.
