Year-Round Positions

Campground Manager

This is a seasonal position from Memorial Day to Labor Day.  This individual (or couple) would have oversight of Woodcrest Retreat’s weekend campground. Working with weekend hosts, the Campground Manager ensures that guests are greeted, facilities are ready for rental groups, and that campground rules are being followed. This person is the first line of response for any issues that may develop over a weekend. Primary work schedule is Friday afternoon through Sunday evening. This is primarily a weekend position, but we there is flexibility to have some weekend or individual days off, plus time on Sunday to attend church (coordinated with other weekend staff). Housekeeper

Keeping facilities clean and ready for guest groups is the foundation of Woodcrest’s guest services. Our housekeepers are responsible to ensure that the various facilities are clean after guest use and/or ready for incoming groups. This individual should have an eye for detail and the ability to follow check lists. This person should be self-motivated and have flexible hours. Seasonal Internships

Woodcrest offers a 5 month internships during the spring (January-May) for college age students who are interested in considering youth ministry as a career. Internships at Woodcrest are a comprehensive program where the intern works in a variety of areas including program, marketing, guest services, housekeeping, and maintenance. It is a requirement that the intern works on summer staff the following summer in completion of their internship. This is considered a seasonal part time position (20-24 hours/week for 2-3 days per week). For more information please email matthew@woodcrestretreat.org.

At Woodcrest, our desire is to be the Kingdom of God. Our summer staff are discipled in Christ while they disciple campers. Our summer camp staff members are vital to the summer camp ministry, they represent Jesus to the children at camp. We are looking for authentic Christians who desire to share their faith in word and action as they serve in various roles in an outdoor setting.

JOB DETAILS

Salary: $1,710-$2,700 for the summer season, with additional ability to raise additional support through our Staff Support Fund

Camp Dates: June 7 – August 9 (1 week training + 8 weeks camp).*

Time Off: Friday evening to Sunday evening. Weeks off considered upon request.

Day vs. Overnight Jobs: Some roles are drive-in, you commute and have evenings at home. Others are overnight, living on camp through the week.

Meals + Housing: Free housing, free food (and free fun).

Trekkers Middle School Day Counselor (3)

The Trekkers Counselors lead, teach, and care for a group of Trekkers middle school aged day campers. This includes participating with campers in recreational activities such as group games, team building games, and off-site trips. Trekkers counselors lead a Biblical devotional discussion once a week based on provided curriculum. Trekkers Counselors are responsible to the Trekkers Director. Serves Mondays through Fridays including a Sunday evening preparation meeting. While this is typically a drive-in position from 8:30am-4:30pm, serving as a resident with lodging and meals provided can be considered. Base Pay: $210/week. Overnight Camp Counselors (8)

Overnight counselors serve by leading, teaching, and caring for a group of 7-9 campers. Counselors will live with campers in Adirondack style bunkhouses, cook 1-2 meals a day over a fire, lead Bible discussions, pray with and for campers and lead and participate in daily camp activities. Counselors must possess a solid understanding of the Bible, strong relational skills and lots of enthusiasm. Position may include serving as day counselor or support staff one or multiple weeks. Preferably 18 or older. Overnight Counselors are responsible to the Overnight Director. This is a resident position including meals & lodging. General time off is Fri. 8:00 pm thru Sun. 6:00 pm. Outbound Adventure Counselors (2)

Outbound Adventure counselors assist in leading, teaching, and caring for a group of 10-20 campers on Outbound trips. Counselors will go on various week-long Outbound trips throughout the summer. These trips go off site and give campers experiences designed to grow them and make memories. Position includes rough living conditions and stretches without the comforts of modern living. Applicant must be physically fit, able to hike long distances and lift 50 lbs. Position may include serving as day/overnight counselor or support staff one or multiple weeks. Preferably 18 or older. Outbound Counselors are responsible to the Outbound Director. This is a resident position including meals & lodging. General time off is Fri. 8:00 pm thru Sun. 6:00 pm. Base Pay: $240/week.

Day Camp Counselors (16)

Day camp counselors serve by leading, teaching, and caring for a group of 7-9 campers. Day Camp Counselors will lead campers through and participate in daily camp activities, including singing, Bible, crafts, nature, and recreation. Daily commitment approx. 8:30 am-4:30 pm. Counselors must possess a solid understanding of the Bible, strong relational skills and lots of enthusiasm. Preferably 16 or older. This role serves Mondays through Fridays including a Sunday evening preparation meeting. While this is typically a drive-in position from 8:30am-4:30pm, serving as a resident with lodging and meals provided can be considered. This is a drive-in position including lunch, although lodging is also available. It will also include a weekly rotation of before & after care either 7-9 am or 4:00-5:30 pm. Health Care Provider (2)

Manage the health care of campers and staff in coordination with fellow Health Care Provider. Reviews health forms at camper registration, communicates with parents according to health related concerns, follows doctor’s orders in providing medication, evaluates and treats minor injuries, calls for professional help in major injury, promotes and encourages the health and safety of staff and campers. Keeps accurate records of all health related information. Licensed RN, LPN, EMT, CNA or nursing students or those with similar training are welcome to apply. Crafts Instructor

Lead creative hands on experiences for summer campers. Responsibilities include coordinating the arts and crafts projects, classes, selecting and planning projects, ordering supplies. Requires a high level of creativity, self-motivation, organizational abilities, as well as a willingness to serve in other areas of camp as needed. Art or creative experience preferred. Nature Instructor

Desires to serve through creative teaching and leading discovery and exploration of nature. Emphasizes what we can learn about our Creator through His creation. Plans and teaches a daily lesson for campers, cares for Nature Shack animals, and cleans our Nature Shack. Individual must possess strong organization and time management skills, be flexible, creative, take initiative, and have an attitude of service. May also include additional responsibilities. Videographer / Digital Media Producer

Produce weekly camp digital media to be shown at the end of camp parent’s program and for purchase by parents.  Oversee all videotaping, editing, duplicating and distributing responsibilities. Requires a high level of creativity and self-motivation. Applicants should have proficient computer skills and organizational abilities as well as a willingness to serve in other areas of camp as needed. Video, photography and digital video editing experience necessary. May also include additional responsibilities. Knowledge of video editing software preferred. Snack Bar/Store Manager

Provide leadership & management to camp sales at the camp store and the snack bar. Must have the ability to operate a cash register, handle money efficiently in a fast paced environment, and prepare and serve simple food items. Individual must possess strong organization, relational, and time management skills. Must be flexible, friendly, take initiative, and have an attitude of service.  The snack bar manager will also be asked to jump in and help out in other areas around camp. There may be some weekend hours at a per hour rate. This is a 9 week resident position including meals & lodging or a drive-in position. Worship Leader / Prayer Coordinator

Plan song selection and prepare group worship times to be meaningful times of celebration and reverence. The Worship Leader will lead age appropriate worship for various age groups of children and youth, and play a lead instrument well. Includes prayer coordinator responsibilities. The applicant must be spiritually mature, possess proficient computer skills, flexible and have good communication and organizational skills. Will also include additional responsibilities. Support Staff Services (2)

Desires to serve the Lord by providing support and assistance to all programs. Responsibilities may include assisting nature and craft instructor, helping to lead games, camper registration, cleaning and maintaining bathrooms, challenge course elements, camp store, running the water slide, serving as photographer, and encouragement to all staff and counselors. Individual must be flexible, take initiative, and have an attitude of service. Responsible to the Support Staff Director. Preferably 18 or older. Food Service Directors

Plan and prepare meals for up to 240 campers and staff each day. Give direction to two assistant food service staff members. Coordinates volunteer kitchen staff and food purchasing and kitchen clean up. Should enjoy working with a team of people; possess a positive work ethic, and a servant’s heart. Experience in a working kitchen is preferred. Wages are $13-15/hour.

Food Service Support Staff

Provide support to all summer camp food service needs. Responsibilities include assisting Food Service Director with meal preparation, serving, and clean up for day and overnight camps. Must possess strong organizational abilities, take initiative, and a willingness to serve in other areas of camp as needed. Food preparation experience preferred. Summer Directors

Summer Directors must possess strong organization and relational skills, basic computer skills, be outgoing, creative, take initiative, and have an attitude of service. Past camp counseling experience necessary; preferably age 20 or older. These are 10 week positions. Responsible to the Program Director/Asst. Program Director.

Overnight Director: Provides direction and oversight of residential camp staff, schedules, and activities. The weeks spent on duty will be a resident position including meals & lodging. Weekend Host

Create a welcoming environment as host of Woodcrest Retreat’s campground on the summer weekends. The Weekend Host will meet the needs of guests on camp property. Duties may include running the waterslide, spot cleaning restrooms, interacting with guests, operating the camp store, and more. The applicant must be spiritually mature, enjoy serving, flexible and have good communication and organizational skills. Will also include additional responsibilities. This is a resident position including meals and lodging and/ or a drive-in position. Expected hours include Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday, and Monday morning. General time off is Monday 11am to Friday 11am. We are flexible on hours and number of weekends. Base Pay: $230/weekend. Administrative Support Staff

Perform administrative duties relating to summer campResponsibilities include assisting Reservationist with customer service and daily office tasks. Must possess strong organizational abilities, proficiency in Microsoft Office, take initiative, and a willingness to serve in other areas of camp as needed. This position can be either a resident position including meals & lodging or a drive-in position. This support staff role will experience “camp staff life” beyond office work by living and working closely with resident summer staff and additional responsibilities associated with summer camp. Maintenance Support Staff

To assist in building and grounds maintenance under the supervision of the maintenance director. Must enjoy working with hands, possess a positive work ethic and a servant’s heart. Resident Lifeguard

The Resident Lifeguard is a support staff position that focuses on, but not limited to, the pool and water slide related activities. While serving at the pool this person ensures safety of campers and patrons according to their lifeguard training. As a summer camp support staff team member this person also helps with the execution of camp programs not related to the pool during the mornings and evenings. Becoming part of our resident camp staff provides the experiencing “camp staff life” beyond lifeguarding by living and working closely with resident summer staff.

Wages: $214/week plus $14/hour for any additional hours accrued

Work Commitment Requirements:

  • Resident Lifeguards will work one weekend a month at $14/hour, adding a minimum of $182 per month.
  • Lifeguards will work at least one of either Memorial Day weekend or Labor Day weekend.
  • Requested time off must be turned in at least one month in advance

Lifeguard Director

Desires to serve the Lord by providing direction and oversight to the camp swimming pool area and water slide at Woodcrest Retreat. Key responsibilities include plan the weekly lifeguard schedule, oversee all lifeguards, and assist in lifeguard training, in addition to regular lifeguard duties. Director must possess strong organization and relational skills, proficient computer skills, familiar with Microsoft Office, be outgoing, creative, take initiative, and have an attitude of service. Preferably 18 or older.  This position runs from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend, with additional pre-season hours as needed. Position includes some weekend hours. Starting at $14/hour. Volunteer Positions

Volunteer Craft Assistant – Day Camps

Individual assists the Craft Instructor in craft time sessions. Offers support, helps teach campers the craft, emphasizes new skill development and encourages opportunities for campers to be creative. Assist in morning craft classes each day, Mon-Fri. Each class includes approx. 25-35 campers and staff. Works with craft instructor and Program Director concerning project ideas. Desires to implement scriptural themes into craft projects when possible.

Volunteer Nature Assistant

Individual desires to serve the Lord through assisting the nature instructor in teaching groups of campers, and in feeding, caring for and displaying a variety of species in the camp’s Nature Shack. Responsibilities include cleaning pens and tanks, feeding, care of animals. Hours vary. 15 or older.

Volunteer Day Camp Counselors

Volunteer for one or more weeks! This individual will serve by leading and caring for a group of 7-9 campers. Counselor’s duties include leading the group through the scheduled activities of the day, participating in camp activities, encouraging campers in participation, teamwork and safety, connecting with campers throughout the week, and encouraging Spiritual growth. Counselors must possess a solid understanding of the Bible, strong relational skills and lots of enthusiasm. Preferably 16 or older. (Sunday night staff meeting and Mon–Fri. 8am – 4:30 pm)

Kitchen

During the summer months, many volunteers are needed to assist in preparing and serving meals to the summer campers. Place your name on the call as needed list and then volunteer as available. Time commitment is flexible.

You would be assisting in the preparation and serving of meals for up to 250 campers and staff each day.

Assist in maintaining buildings and grounds under the supervision of the maintenance director. Should enjoy working with hands; possess a positive work ethic, and a servant’s heart. Hours vary by day or week as scheduled with Facility Director. Preferably 15 or older.

RISE Staff-in-Training

2024 update: RISE is FULL. To be put on a waiting list, email adam@woodcrestretreat.org.

RISE is designed to be fun, challenging and give the participants a taste of what it’s like to work in summer camp ministry. RISE participants will serve alongside camp staff doing daily activities including shadowing day camp counselors, helping lead game times, and grounds maintenance. Also, they will grow by participating in outdoor skills training, learning camp leadership skills and exploring God’s Word. And we shouldn’t forget that they will have a great time going on outdoor adventure trips and enjoying classic camp fun! RISEers will be immersed in the outdoorsman experience through tenting and making most breakfasts and suppers over a fire. Don’t wait to sign up because space is limited and admittance is not guaranteed.

RISE Program Dates: June 24-28 and July 1-5th.

This overnight program is one session, two weeks in length excluding the weekend. Participants must attend both weeks of their session.

Lifeguarding at Woodcrest Retreat


Woodcrest Retreat’s pool is a highlight for many families and campers throughout the summer. Our lifeguards work together to ensure patron safety and that any activities occurring at the pool are in accordance with Woodcrest Retreat’s mission and vision. To become a lifeguard an individual needs to be at least 15 years old and obtain a American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification (Or an equivalent certification). Returning for 2024: low cost or free Lifeguard certification classes will be available to Woodcrest-hired lifeguards, saving you hundreds! Training will be offered the weekend of May 17-19. Register HERE.

Drive-in Lifeguarding Quick Facts:

  • $14/hour
  • Guarding season is Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.
  • Lifeguards will work weekend hours from 12-6:30pm, with up to three weekend days off each month.
  • Weekday hours are 3:30-6:30pm, with occasional evening pool party hours.
  • Weekly hours will typically cap at 27. Lifeguards who desire extra hours may put in a request to the Lifeguard Director. Additional hours will be granted based on seniority.
  • Lifeguards will work at least one of either Memorial Day weekend or Labor Day weekend.
  • Requested time off must be turned in at least one month in advance.

Woodcrest also hires Resident Lifeguards, who receive free lodging and meals to live on camp during the summer camp season. See Resident Lifeguard job description above for more information.
